Smart Home vs. Home Automation

The terms smart home and home automation are often used interchangeably, but do you know the actual difference between the two?

A smart home refers to all of the devices within your home, and the ways they are connected. When you use your phone to unlock the front door, or remotely turn up the heat for your dog on a cold day, you're taking advantage of just a few of the things your home can do. The concept of a "smart" house has been around as long as science fiction has; it's only in the modern day that our portable technology and intelligent appliances have really allowed us to reach that dream.

Automation is just one category of task that your smart setup can handle. In order to be automation, the feature has to be automatic; setting your oven to start preheating at 5pm every day is an example of automation. Home automation can take on a surprising number of forms, from lighting changes that keep your energy bill down to custom greetings that play whenever a family member returns home. One of the benefits of smart technology is that you can change your automation settings from your cell phone; your lighting setup can be adapted at a moment's notice to fit your specific needs.

A smart house can exist without automation, but automation requires smart technology to function correctly. If you have a smart appliance, check to see what kinds of automation settings it has; you might be surprised at the options.

At AcoustiCreations, we understand the importance of a strong chain of technology, with each item integrating seamlessly into your smart setup. We use top of the line products that we know won't fail, which means you can rely on your automated features working again and again. Whether you're interested in smart lighting and audio or want a fully automated home theater, give our team a call; we'll find something that perfectly fits your needs.
